Kathy Hochul and the New York governor market

The state contract is the New York governor market, and its rule is one sentence long: a party wins if a representative of that party is inaugurated as governor of New York pursuant to the 2026 election. Two contracts sit under that rule, one for the Democratic party and one for the Republican party, and the pair pays on a swearing-in rather than on a count. No person is named anywhere in the rule.

What the rule asks is a party question, and what it pays follows from that. It pays whichever party's representative takes the oath in January 2027, whoever that representative turns out to be, and it would pay the same way if the person taking the oath were not Kathy Hochul. It does not pay on her, and no contract listed on this site resolves on her by name. Kalshi's own record for the two contracts carries a person's name as a display label, Hochul's on the Democratic side and Bruce Blakeman's on the Republican side, but a label chosen by an exchange is not a ballot document and settles nothing. Current office and record

The office record makes Hochul the 57th governor of New York, in office since August 24, 2021, succeeding Andrew Cuomo, with no end date entered against the term. Her party is the Democratic Party.

Two earlier New York offices sit in the same record. She served in the United States House of Representatives from June 1, 2011 to January 3, 2013, and she was Lieutenant Governor of New York from January 1, 2015 to August 23, 2021, which is the day before the governorship starts in that record. Those dates are the whole of what the office record establishes, and this page adds nothing to them.

The cross-check on the current claim is the office's own site, which on October 20, 2026 published under her name as governor. Both readings agree, and both are re-read at thirty days because an officeholder claim goes stale faster than the rest of a page.

What has moved the market

Two dated records sit behind this contract. The New York State Board of Elections' amended certification for the November 3, 2026 general election, dated October 7, 2026, lists the governor and lieutenant governor office with Kathy C. Hochul and Adrienne E. Adams on the Democratic line and Bruce A. Blakeman and Todd Hood on the Republican and Conservative lines, which is what puts names behind the two party contracts. Separately, on July 31, 2026 the Attorney General brought a special proceeding against KalshiEX LLC, the exchange that writes the pair's rule.

The case matters to this contract for a narrow reason. Kalshi and Polymarket both quote the New York governor pair, so an order touching one exchange changes who is quoting it rather than whether it is quoted at all. The New York legal page sets out what the case has and has not decided.

What happens next

Early voting runs October 24 to November 1, 2026 and the general election is November 3, 2026, both from the New York State Board of Elections political calendar for the year, which prints its own warning that the State Legislature can change the dates. Kalshi's expected expiration for the pair is January 1, 2027, the date a governor is sworn in.
