Where the Sabres play

KeyBank Center opened on September 21, 1996 in Buffalo, the county seat of Erie County and the anchor of Western New York. All 42 of the Sabres' home dates in 2026-27 are there. Of the state's three clubs in the league, this is the one downstate readers do not drive to: the Rangers play in Manhattan, the Islanders in Nassau County, and Buffalo sits at the far western end of New York.

First in the Atlantic

The Sabres won the Atlantic Division in 2025-26 at 50-23-9, 109 points, three ahead of Tampa Bay and Montreal, who each closed on 106. Boston took 100 and Ottawa 99; Toronto was last of the eight at 78. Only two clubs in the league won more games than Buffalo's 50, Colorado with 55 and Carolina with 53, and Dallas and Tampa Bay matched it.

None of that is a credit against the new season, but it is the number that separates the Sabres from the state's other two clubs. The Islanders finished 18 points behind them and the Rangers 32, both in the Metropolitan Division, which the Sabres see only in the games the schedule gives them.

How the calendar falls

After Columbus on October 1, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas, Utah and Florida all come to Buffalo between October 3 and October 12. The travel comes back hard in November, with six straight road games from November 12 to November 22, and again at the start of December on a four-game western swing through Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle.

The in-state dates are spread across the winter. The Rangers play in Buffalo on November 25 and March 6, 2027, and the Sabres go to Manhattan on February 15. The Islanders come to KeyBank Center on February 3, with the Sabres out to Elmont on January 20 and March 21. The regular season ends at home against Detroit on April 10, 2027.

The Sabres among New York's clubs

Three New York State clubs play in the National Hockey League, and the Sabres are the Western New York one: a different division from the other two, three meetings a season with each of them, and a schedule that runs through Ontario and the Midwest more often than down the Hudson.
